Martha Holley-Miers, Partner

Martha is devoted to helping local and national nonprofits secure the financial resources they need to fulfill their missions. Before joining Onward, Martha served as the Director of Development at Higher Achievement, growing its revenue from $2.8 million to $12 million annually, and its footprint from one city to four. She combines 15+ years of successful fundraising and nonprofit management with a professional background in cultural, health, and education nonprofits.

Martha is able to nimbly identify both the needs and opportunities facing a variety of organizations as they grow and sustain revenue. She has led large special event portfolios, major donor programs, as well as diverse institutional fundraising portfolios with particular expertise in private foundations (securing multi-year, 7-figure investments) as well as federal and local government contracts, including winning the first-ever $12 million federal investment in an after school organization.

Martha has served as trainer and expert panelist for partners such as the Chronicle of Philanthropy and the Center for Nonprofit Advancement.  She has a bachelor’s degree in History from Kenyon College and a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Georgetown University.  Martha will lead Onward’s fundraising and development portfolios.

On a more personal note, Martha is a proud native of the Washington area, and makes her home in the Petworth neighborhood with her wife and two young kids. She loves coffee, cooking, reading, and yoga classes with friends. Martha proudly serves as the Vice-Chair of the Friends of the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, and is always happy to host visitors for a stroll through the lotus blossoms!
